Aladdin (2019)
So yesterday I only had a half day of work, so I decided to go see the new Aladdin movie.
I went by myself to go see it. No one else in my family had much interest in it. My brother dropped me off and picked me up afterwards.
I had a decent seat. Not too close to anyone, like I like it. 😆 Had a big tub of popcorn and a blue raspberry Icee, yum! 😁
Before seeing it I had gotten the soundtrack. At first I was disappointed with it. But I guess nothing beats the original especially Robin Williams as the Genie. No one compares. I was just meh on a lot of the songs, but as I listened they grew on me. I guess you gotta try not to compare to the original. Will Smith did a decent job. Especially on “Arabian Nights.” Typically not a favorite, but he really did great on it. “One Jump Ahead” grew on me as well. Jasmine’s song “Speechless” is pretty good too.
Anyway, the movie! I really enjoyed it! I would totally see it again! In fact plan on getting it on DVD when it comes out.
The actors chosen actually did a pretty good job on it. I was meh at first before I went to see it, but I really enjoyed it. Will Smith actually was pretty good as the Genie. I mean when I heard he was doing the Genie I thought the role suited him.
Couple things I really liked:
- Jafer: There seemed more to him. There seemed to be more interactions and some form of history for him.
- Jasmine: She seemed to have a bigger role. Plus she got a song! And I liked how she wanted to rule, and ended up doing it!
- Genie: I remember reading some time back that in the original movie they had thought about when the Genie was freed making him human. The guy that introduced the movie was modeled after the Genie. But it was scrapped. They did use it for this movie, which I thought was awesome.
- Humor: It was a really funny movie! I was laughing my butt off at some parts. But it also didn’t feel overdone.
All in all, a really good movie. I highly recommend it to fans of Aladdin or Disney.

I’m glad you enjoyed it. I haven’t been in a movie theater for so long. xD

I don’t go super often myself.

I definitely changed my mind about seeing this.

I thought it was really good!

I think you’ve helped to convince me to see it too. I mean, it’s nice that they’ve used this film as an opportunity to improve things, instead of making it a straight up “HD remake”. Also, I have seen the Aladdin musical and I had pretty mixed feelings about it.

Yeah, I like when with remakes they make some effort to improve things or try something new. And cool about seeing the musical!
