Home Site Me Caludin

A new name…sort of

I never quite got around to mentioning this in my last post, but you may of noticed I stopped referring to myself as Maroon or Maroon Caludin online. I was inspired by Kassy who recently decided to start using her own name.

My own reasons are similar. Using it is more personal. Plus…well…it feels like a way of growing up. To stop using my online name and use my real name. Many of the reasons Kassy gave, inspired me to do the same.

I wasn’t too sure at first, but decided to give it a go.

I have to say it feels so weird! I’ve used that name for so long. Like since high school, so its weird when I post here or on forums seeing just my actual name. But I think I like it. Feels more…me.

Anyway, that’s why you’ll see less of my online name!

Truthfully, I never really understood the whole “let’s use a nickname instead of my real name” thing. Over time, I have noticed that people, especially bloggers, tend to follow the popular trends, and while that’s not a bad thing, I’ve just never followed the “let’s use a nickname instead of our real name” trend. I guess mainly it’s due to the fact that I’ve been blogging since 1998, and never felt the need to use a nickname, which at the time I didn’t even have and still don’t to this day. However, I’m glad you’ve decided to use your real name, it’s definitely a pretty name :).

By the way, Happy Belated New Years!

I’m not entirely sure why I did. I think because back when I had aol I used that as my screen name and on most sites used that as my name. I think probably some people, especially older ones probably did since they figured it helped avoid creepers.

But thank you! Happy New Years to you too!

Thanks for clearing that up! I myself was baffled who Maroon or Megan is, I thought they were different persons. Megan sounds so feminine — the name reminds me of Hercules every single time.

Feel free to use your real name and get personal. This is your personal blog, after all. πŸ˜‰

Haha, sorry about that! XD Yeah, I know a few times with my Maroon name people sometimes thought I was a guy. But nope. Just was a name I used for a character of mine that I liked. Still feels weird using my actual name, I sometimes have to stop myself from typing Maroon!

There is nothing wrong with using an internet alias or a nickname of some form. When I first started making a presence on the net back in the late ’90s-early 2000s, I also used an internet alias. (“Ellone”/”Ellie” during my video game shrining days, “Eri” during my J-Pop fansite days, and then everyone just started calling me “Adri” after those phases) There are many reasons why people started with aliases rather than their real names — security and privacy is the usual prior reason. So, for those who accuse those with the words like “Oh, people use nicknames/aliases because it’s a ‘trend’ and every blogger uses it,” you’re absolutely wrong. People have the right to be conscious of how they want to present themselves on the internet, and if they’re uncomfortable in the beginning, nothing wrong to use a different name as part of their comfort zone. The naming could either be because they’re a fan of something (imagine how many Sakuras I’ve met through those 10+ years of my presence here in the net from different types of fandoms LOL). Otherwise, don’t accuse them of anything if you don’t know their reasons.

Kya/Kassy had her reasons why she had been going as “Kya” for several years. She found herself a lot more confident now as herself and have decided to use her real name. It may have taken her years to find that confidence, but no matter what, she found that confidence eventually. Everyone is different, so let’s just respect that.

I’ve always known you as Megan. I remember seeing your real name when you sent me an email (or was that from Caludin.com forums? lol) and I thought, maybe you wouldn’t mind me calling you that back then, but, I’ll respect your wishes on how you want to be called. That’s all that matters. 😊

Hope we all have a better year starting today.

I honestly don’t even entirely remember my reasons. I think mostly I liked going by my character’s name. XD But yeah everyone has stuff they’re comfortable with and not. I usually went by Maroon but kept my real name around online too sometimes.

I thought it was cool Kya decided to use her real name, and I thought why not? It feels weird after all these years, but I think I like it. It feels more me, which is nice.

And honestly I’m cool with whatever people want to refer to me. You honestly could of called me by Megan or even shorten it to Meg. I have all sorts of nicknames I’ve been referred to over the years (mostly offline ones) I don’t really care what name people use.

It’s totally understandable that you felt like a name change – it’s your decision and no one can fault that. I noticed in your Twitter name and comments that you started to use Megan instead. I think any change will feel a little odd at first but I hope β€œMegan” sounds more natural to you as time goes on πŸ™‚
